I respect artists wanting to express themselves, change their style and be unique, but whatever happened to the god old fashioned saying,”if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Diana Ross is just one starlet who kept her signature look and for the most part never changed it. It’s something the ladies of music were groomed to maintain of yesteryear and never let it go, but many have from Gladys Knight to Tina Turner. Beyonce’ still has not cut her hair as a permanent look, although she has worn short change up wigs in videos like Countdown.

Here comes along the youngest of artists, Willow Smith, a fiery ball of energy arrived with what appeared to be a signature style complete with “Whip it”  braids and knots in multi-colors. Now she has gone drastic and chopped off all her hair very similar to Solange Knowles, Janet Jackson, Chrisette Michelle, Michelle Williams, Erykah Badu and the list goes on as more and more Hollywood starlets go for a dramatic chop some will say is a move to butcher one’s career, but is it.

If you look around the internet, these women are outstandingly beautiful with or without their hair. Even Willow Smith mommy, Jada Pinkett had chopped off her hair at some point in her career. Willow Smith may not want to be a picture of beauty, but yet she is and always will be from her mother and father Will Smith’s prominent features to her infectious personality that says, I Am Me, and how clever to create a same entitled song humbly requesting for the world to embrace her no matter what her decisions are as far as her image.

Do you still not love her message, her voice and over all zest for life and dedication to her craft? If indeed Willow Smiths’s defense mechanism to cope and survive a critical stage in her childhood where most girls can be vulnerable to predators, averse criticism and social warfare better described as “haters’ in this modern age than so be it. She is still as cute as a button, very talented and whatever, or however,or whenever she decides to change up her look as she began or if she decides to not to at all, the world will still give rise to this 11 year old prodigy who is more than her hair.
